Small Group Counseling

Around the end of September, I send out parent referral forms for small groups. I also receive referrals from staff members. Small group counseling is a wonderful experience for children to learn and practice school success skills.

Here is an example of some of the groups I offer:

Friendship Group: This group is designed to help students learn to take turns, share, problems solve, work cooperatively and build friendships.

Managing Feelings: The group will focus on helping students to label and express their feelings appropriately.

Stress Management: This group is for students who would benefit from learning techniques for coping positively with stress. Students who tend to worry, be perfectionists, and/or have difficulty adapting to change might benefit from this group.

Family Change Group: This group is for students that have experienced a family change that is impacting their academics. (divorce, separation, a parent being deployed, and/or a loss of a family member). This group will focus on dealing and coping with family changes.

Study Skills Group:  This group will explore strategies to improve organization skills, school and homework completion, and test taking. Students will set personal short and long-term goals for the school year. (Only for 3rd-5th Graders)

Lunch Bunch: This group meets on a one time or periodic basis. It is for students who need a little extra attention or special socialization time.
